From its inception, the Waldorf Astoria was a true palace in the city. Cultural figures, political leaders, musicians, and royalty gathered in its grand spaces and entertained in its opulent suites. The Waldorf Astoria’s legendary service set the standard for American hospitality.
The original Waldorf Hotel was built at 33rd Street and Fifth Avenue in 1893 by William Waldorf Astor. Four years later, John Jacob Astor IV, William’s cousin and familial rival, built an even taller hotel next door in an act of one-upmanship. The cousins finally agreed to a truce and the two buildings were connected through a 300-foot marble corridor known as Peacock Alley. The Waldorf-Astoria was born.
In 1931, the Waldorf Astoria re-opened in its current Park Avenue location, becoming the largest and tallest hotel in the world. Designed in the Art Deco style, it welcomed presidents, royals, movie stars, and cultural luminaries into its grand public spaces and palatial suites.
Inspired by the hotel’s classic grandeur, internationally acclaimed designer Jean-Louis Deniot has created residences that balance modern comfort with Art Deco opulence; blending the old and the new; the European and the American; the grand and the intimate. Each residence celebrates the scale and beauty of the original architecture—a perfect balance of aesthetic and practical considerations—with windows that replicate the building’s original design and flood the rooms with dynamic views of the New York cityscape. Kitchens feature wood and lacquer cabinetry custom-designed by Deniot and fabricated by Italian design house Molteni&C, cleverly concealing top-of-the-line German appliances by Gaggenau. Elegant primary bathrooms offer heated floors, rain showers, and custom Italian vanities. Handcrafted finishes, natural materials, and subtle Art Deco references bring a sense of history to these gracious contemporary spaces.

THE AUSTRALIAN MARKET
Banning foreign purchases of established dwellings. Changes to foreign purchases of established dwellings.
On 16 February 2025, the Government announced that it will impose a temporary ban on foreign purchases of established dwellings for at least 2 years and crack down on land banking.
From 1 April 2025 to 31 March 2027, foreign persons, including temporary residents and foreign-owned companies, cannot apply to buy an established dwelling in Australia, unless an exception applies. These limited exceptions will include investments that significantly increase housing supply or support the availability of housing supply, and for the Pacific Australia Labour Mobility (PALM) scheme.
Other existing exceptions remain in place, such as for purchases by:
- permanent residents
- New Zealand citizens
spouses of Australian citizens, permanent residents or New Zealand citizens (when purchased as joint tenants).
A review will be undertaken to determine if the ban should be extended beyond 31 March 2027.
We will enforce the ban through enhanced screening of foreign investment proposals relating to residential properties.
We will carry out a full audit of current foreign investment approvals for vacant residential land development.
We will also take a tougher stance on compliance of foreign investment approvals for vacant residential land development. This will help ensure that foreign investors who have bought or want to buy vacant residential land meet development conditions.

INTERNATIONAL PERSPECTIVE
According to the Real estate portal, realestate.com.au they reported the highest level of search activity from overseas ever in the March 2023 quarter, led by New Zealand, the United States, the United Kingdom, and China. Many of the foreign buyers are looking for properties $4M and above. The end of COVID-19 restrictions in China in late 2022 is a key reason for the recent increase in international buyers, as China remains one of Australia’s biggest source countries for migration.
